WebHIFiRE is one of the largest (US $54 million) collaborative research programs between Australia and the USA. It aims to explore the fundamental science of hypersonics and the potential for next generation aeronautical systems. Hypersonic flight is flight through the atmosphere at speeds above Mach 5.5, or more than five times the speed of sound. Webgrams, such as HiFiRE [2], and technological demonstrators, such as the X-51 born from the joint efforts of Boeing and AFRL. These ﬂight programs have been highly successful in demonstrating the feasibility of air-breathing atmospheric ﬂight and increasing the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of hy-personic systems.
